Transformation Tuesday

In the spirit of Transformation Tuesday I thought I'd share my health and fitness progress with you. Now for those who actually keep up with my blog, I'm sure you can remember me posting back in December about me starting the healthy eating and fitness.

A lot has happened since then so I won't lie and say I've been extremely consistent but what I will say is I've managed to cut back on so many things which was resulting in me gaining weight at that time and I'm currently now more determined to continue in taking care of my body as I'm actually seeing positive changes in my body.
Back before I started doing this I was snacking a hell of a lot, eating far too much fatty foods and drinking tonnes loads of alcohol. Well I thank God for change. I still have a long way to go but look at the difference between December 2013 - May 2014.

The first two months of this journey was the hardest because I really had to discipline myself. I found myself being serious for about a week then the next week I'd fall back into my bad habits and so fourth. I think it wasn't until around January 2014 when I took it more serious. I went shopping that month and bought more healthy foods, I also started attending gym classes such as spin/cycling and was drinking plenty of water rather than fizzy/sugar drinks. My eating habit changed, for example I would add more greens to my plate, my meat would be grilled and I was drinking green tea. I've found that what I eat and when I eat plays a huge part in controlling my weight.

I try to have 3 meals each day. Its important for me to have breakfast my choice being either Weetabix, Special K and Cheerios along with a cup of green tea. I try and have my cereal as soon as I wake up leaving a decent gap from then to when I'm due a healthy lunch which could be anytime between 2pm/3pm (can vary depending on if I'm working that day). Then by 6pm/7pm I must have a healthy dinner. I suffer from heaving bloating so for me having my last meal of the day by 8 pm latest works so good for me. I've being on this regime since January and I've now become so used to this routine. My sweets cravings has also reduced as well as my portions. It took about 2/3 months for my body to be used to this that now its become so normal for me to not want a snack or to have had my final meal by 7pm and not be feeling hungry later. Eating clean is definitely the most important part of any persons fitness.

Alcohol was once my best friend and I really had to end that relationship in April. During Easter I gave up alcohol for lent and its probably the best decision I made. Looking back it makes sense as to why my belly was looking the way it was. My excessive alcohol intake was making me look either pregnant, just given birth or like I'd had a couple kids already. But again I thank God for change.

Within the last month I'd like to say I've increased my fitness activities. I've taken up running at least 3 times a week which would last between 20 - 25 mins a session jogging from my house in Brixton to Camberwell and back again. I needed the cardio to help shred all that fat but it seems I'm doing too much of cardio and not enough toning. I've already had people tell me my bum and legs are getting smaller :-(

This is how much I've ran within the last month. I was recently introduced to this app so I've only managed to record the jogs you see there. Nike+Running is a super fab app that can be used to keep track of how far your running as well as the calories your burning. You can also post your progress on social media and so on. Running was always something I enjoyed doing. For a person that thinks a lot, running has helped in clearing my head especially if I'm having a bad day.

In order to really tone up my body I've now taken up Power Pump classes also known as weight training. Its the use of weights for squats, lunges, dead lift and so on. I have this weird unrealistic fantasy that one day, just one day I'll lift more than my partner. How cool would it be to say 'well I lift more than you bro' (haha). Jokes aside I've been wanting to use weights for the longest time but I never had a clue as to what to use and how to use it. So this class really helps. Its been two weeks that I've started going 3 times a week and I'm really loving it. I love the feeling you get when you've managed to use more weights than the lady next to you (cos the guys in the class be doing too much but soon just wait on it). I also love the day after pain you get which lets me know how hard I worked my body. At the moment I'm using what I call baby weights but Its how you use it that really matters.

One thing I can say is this journey has not been easy at all. I can't stress enough how much work I still need to do in getting my body fully into shape and then maintaining it. I've been on this journey alone, most of my friends are lucky enough to have big butts and boobs and I tend to secretly perv at how sexy they look with their nice legs and booty while all I have is 'Cute' as I get far too often ;-) It would be nice to do this with someone but alone has been just as fun. If you know people that work out or are eating healthy, it helps to have them around as they can encourage and guide you in the right path especially if you don't have a clue about all this eat clean and training dirty stuff like me.

Its been 5 months and I'm happy that the results are finally starting to show. It may be small results but it sure makes a change from the woman who could barely stand the sight of herself naked. I did not feel attractive in the slightest and was never comfortable showing my body or even wearing certain clothes without feeling conscious of my flab's showing. There's no major secret to all this and what may be working for me might not be working for others as our bodies differ from another. 5 months kind of sounds like a long time but for me it doesn't seem like it at all. So when I hear other peoples stories in which it took 9/12 months etc I may think its long but when your actually practicing it, it does not feel as long.

At this point I'm certainly a lot happier with the way my body is starting to look. Its funny I now want to show it off at every given opportunity. Clothes that were once tight now fit with even small room. I even plan to buy new clothes that I could have never worn before such as crop tops and such. My belly would never have allowed it before. But pretty soon I'll be a part of the crop top and high waist skirts gang, just wait on it. I love how my body is looking and I'm more driven to make more improvements as I know my body can look even better. A man once told me that once my body is fully in shape it will be a wrap. So I guess I'm slowly winning now huh?
